About

We at the Commonwealth Children’s Center (CCC) regard it as a model for early childhood education. CCC thrives on its unique ability to attract families from economically and geographically diverse neighborhoods to the rich history of downtown Boston. Our teachers embrace this diversity by fostering each child’s individuality, creativity, and learning style in a nurturing environment with strong home-school connections. We demonstrate our commitment to public service and diversity by providing tuition on a sliding scale to state employees and welcoming voucher families to our Center. We ensure that at the Commonwealth Children’s Center, the children are the center. CCC is the first early education program in Region 6, greater Boston to achieve level four of The Department of Early Education and Care initiative: The Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). See Article

Our staff meet or exceed state regulations for the training and preparation of early educators and professional staff.  Each staff member contributes to the planning and implementation of the curriculum in order to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging school experience for each child.  CCC also strives to exceed state regulations in providing lower student-to-teacher class ratios.

Teaching staff plan a developmentally-appropriate curriculum for each child using the Teaching Strategies program. We believe in emergent curriculum where activities are based on the children’s interests and needs. Our curriculum is designed to foster the continued development of each individual child’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth through hands-on active exploration, experimentation, and creative expression.

The Center is open from Monday – Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the exception of staff development days, early closings, legal holidays observed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the day after Thanksgiving, five days for Winter Break, and snow days.  The Center also reserves the right to close in emergencies by order of the Board of Directors.
